About Us – The Story Behind Standing Stronger Athletics (SSA)

Welcome to Standing Stronger Athletics (SSA), the home of passionate cheerleaders and dedicated coaches! Our journey began with a dream, a vision to create a safe, nurturing environment where young athletes could learn, grow, and achieve their full potential in cheerleading. SSA was founded on the belief that “perfection comes before progression,” ensuring every athlete develops a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced skills.

The Vision of Coach Shannon

Our story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the driving force behind SSA – Coach Shannon. With a strong background in cheerleading and a passion for helping young athletes succeed, Coach Shannon embarked on her coaching journey in 2015. As the current Springstead High School Head Cheerleading Coach, her love for the sport and commitment to excellence led her to create SSA.

Coach Shannon envisioned a space where athletes could develop their skills in a supportive and fun environment, regardless of their experience level. She knew the importance of teaching proper fundamentals and instilling a sense of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in her athletes. This vision laid the foundation for SSA, which has since grown into a thriving cheer community.

We pride ourselves on providing personalized coaching, fostering a sense of belonging, and celebrating each individual’s unique talents and accomplishments.

We offer a wide range of classes and clinics, from beginner to advanced levels, focusing on various aspects of cheerleading, including stunting, tumbling, jumps, and conditioning. Our experienced coaches, including the renowned USF All Girl Coaches, ensure that every athlete receives the guidance and support needed to excel in their cheer journey.

Why the Warriors? 

The decision to make the mascot the Warriors is rooted in family tradition. Coach Shannon’s father-in-law, Tim Herod, passed away at the tender age of 49 from cancer. Although he fought his sickness like a warrior, that is not where the name originates. Tim was a truck driver, and his “handle” was Warrior. Coach Shannon wanted to honor him and her husband by ensuring his legacy lives on through the spirit of cheer.
